Oatmeal is a breakfast-favorite for many of our clients – it’s filling, full of great nutrients, and fuels the body to take on the day! The health benefits of eating oatmeal are fantastic, and include lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart disease.
But, let’s be honest – those steel cut oats can start to taste boring after a while. And as SlimGenics is all about great tasting healthful foods, boring oatmeal flavors simply won’t cut it! To add some much-needed flavor to your oatmeal, give these enhancers a try.
- Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal: Place 1/4 cup oats, 1/4 cup milk, and a dash of cinnamon in a small pot set over medium-high heat until mixture becomes thick and creamy. Stir in frozen blueberries and turn heat to medium-low. Stir in 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Apple Pie Oatmeal: Over medium-high heat, place 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water in a large pot. After liquid has come to a boil, add 1/4 cup steel cut oats and 1/2 cup diced apples, reducing heat to medium, stirring occasionally. Once apple slices have softened (about 15 minutes), add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice, and a pinch of Morton® Lite Salt.
- Overnight Oats
- Spiced Oatmeal: Simply add a pinch of saffron, ground cardamom and nutmeg while your steel cut oats are cooking!
- Mandarin Green Tea Oatmeal: Skip the milk, and cook your steel cut oats in the antioxidant-rich green tea! Steep 2 green tea bags in 3/4 cups of water overnight. In the morning, simmer the tea, 1/4 cup steel cut oats and a pinch of Morton® Lite Salt over low heat. When the oats have thickened, stir in 1/4 teaspoon Splenda® Granulated and top with 1/4 cup mandarin orange segments.
