March is National Nutrition Month and SlimGenics wants to remind everyone the importance of a well-balanced diet, staying active and maintaining healthy habits to improve overall well being. You may have fallen into bad habits and you’re struggling to return to a healthy routine. The good news is it doesn’t have to be a hassle to get healthier. To kick off National Nutrition Month, we’ve compiled some simple changes you can make in your everyday life to lose weight and feel great in 2015. Cheers to your health!
Brighten Your Plate
If your plate is looking dull and grey, chances are you are not getting all of the recommended nutrients from your diet. Brighten your plate with colorful fruits and veggies as well as whole grains. This can be a fun activity, especially when you get the whole family involved in making their plates as colorful as possible.
Drink More Water
Studies have shown that drinking more water can aid in losing weight. Water can speed up your metabolism as well as help curb cravings due to the fact that oftentimes your body mistakes hunger for dehydration. So before you reach for a snack, try a glass of water. SlimGenics recommends drinking 80 ounces of water each day to see and feel the difference. You can zest up your H2O with lemon, orange or cucumber. Or, better yet, try our Thermo-Boost energy drink mixes, which are formulated with natural antioxidants and energy-producing ingredients to make your water taste great and help keep you feeling invigorated all day.
Snacking throughout the day can actually help you lose weight and live healthier. We’re not recommending you munch on greasy potato chips, though. Nourishing snacks like fruits, vegetables and protein can help you stay energized throughout the day. This will also help curb mindless snacking or overeating at mealtimes. As part of the SlimGenics program, we offer Thermo-Snacks—delicious on-the-go snacks packed with protein and nutrients to keep you feeling full and motivated all day long.
Prepare Meals Ahead
Instead of just preparing lunch for just one day, take the extra time Sunday or Monday night to make your lunches for the entire week. This will ensure you have a healthy, balanced meal while at work or school and you will be less tempted to deviate from your plan.
Get to Steppin’
Small, active changes in your everyday lifestyle can make a big difference when losing weight. If you normally take the elevator, hop off a floor early and take the stairs up one flight. Try to take a few walks a week, then more as your energy increases. You can even download an app on your smartphone that counts your steps and make becoming more active a fun competition with friends and family.
Rethink Your Drink
Soda and fruit juices are packed with sugar. So much sugar, in fact, that one can of soda or glass of fruit juice could contain more sugar than your entire recommended daily intake. Drinking just one soda a day could lead to a weight gain of nearly 15 lbs. in one year. So trade those sugary drinks for water or options with less sugar and notice the difference!
Find A Support System
In addition to your Program Advisor, it’s great to have a partner or friend who will hold you accountable to make better eating decisions, a support system can go a long way in helping you lose weight and live healthier. Having someone alongside you on your journey to lose weight can make all the difference; which is why at SlimGenics, we believe our one-on-one counseling is an invaluable asset to your overall weight-loss experience.
These are just a few of the small changes you can make to get healthier today. But remember, you don’t have to embark on your weight-loss journey alone! SlimGenics can be the comprehensive support system you need to get started and stay on track, no matter what life throws at you.
